Just going to point out that no conservative minister was sunning themselves in Barbados. It's a total lie.
The head of the environment agency was though. Thats not a ministerial position.

A few years ago I would have expected the country to rally as one and demand all foreign aid be stopped until flood damage restoration and flood prevention work is up to adequate standards (that's adequate as determined by the people who know about these things, not the government), but, today it appears there's a "fuck everything that's not going to leave me out of pocket or otherwise inconvenienced" attitude to everything.
I see the government response is to do everything EXCEPT suspend foreign aid payments and slap an Ayrton on everyone's annual insurance bill instead.
Nailed on UK flood defence work won't get a sniff of a single penny thus raised. India, Pakistan & Israel very well might, though, because they DO have floods too, and we're all in this together, remember?
Someone really needs to stand up and get Cameron to justify every penny going on foreign aid and why it has preference over necessary spend in the UK.

Some insurance companies are apparently sending some flooded families off to to Spain for a couple of weeks due to the lack of available accommodation up here, supposedly cheaper option than putting them up in British hotels.

It's called being cryptical, offering opinion to those who can read it and bypassing those not able.

Are people who work hard for a living not allowed holidays, Dapablo?
If you could afford one, or even worked hard, maybe you'd understand.

Fair play to those Syrians. Brilliant show and the sort of thing we all like to see.
Problem is that the lefties out there will use this as more leverage to let in that pack of savages at Calais and seal our fate (ie being blown up while being called racist)

Syrian refugees turning up in Rochdale to offer help to the community by filling sandbags as a thanks and payback. People power.
Environment Minister off sunning in the Caribbean has just got back.

Mashed, I used to commute to work along that line. Twice a year, during a week or so of high tides, you could be stuck for over a hour waiting to go through Dawlish. Bracing stuff, having the tide break/spray over your train carriage.

The train line running along the estuary/sea front between Exeter and Teignmouth used to be regularly out of action when the storms kicked up, basically meaning no train travel to the far south-west.
Only in this country would we scrap all rail links to our main domestic holiday area except the one running literally feet away from the fucking sea under a cliff in an area known for its freak weather!

Nothing to do with his politics couldn't stand Major, boring fart could send you to sleep after the first sentence. On a political note only cos i couldn't stand the son of a circus performer/ ex bus conductor, wasn't it him who wanted to start a moral crusade and introduced 'back to basics' whilst shagging Edwina 'salmonella' Curry You couldn't make it up

We have all had a varied and eventful life. Almost nobody on this website is a stellar success in life. Difference is, who do you blame for this? I tend to blame myself for my failings and am remarkably cheerful about my craptitude. No-one to blame but myself. You, on the other hand, appear to think you are the victim of a conspiracy of toffs and rich folk. Time to grow up, Wolfie Smith.

Nurse, I know you have a preoccupation with my 'career', maybe you're bitter because I've managed to have a pretty varied and eventful life, one other than a dried up old bint who finds great pleasure in digging out middle-aged men who haven't quite 'made it'....
